I'd agree if it were the family's pocketbook paying for every cent of the health care over and above what is considered "reasonable". What's reasonable? I suppose this should be left up to the doctors. They have some idea of where the quality of life is headed - if the person is going to be on life support for the remainder of their life, or in a morphine-induced coma. I've been through both situations, and frankly, as a family member, it feels pretty selfish. You're keeping them around for your own comfort.
